UBS is planning to establish a local investment banking team in Poland to strengthen its market presence in the country.

The team, which will be based in Warsaw once the necessary approvals have been obtained. The new team will offer UBS’s investment banking capabilities to the local market as well as Central Europe.

UBS has been active in executing Polish investment banking mandates for more than 20 years. In 2003 UBS opened a representative office in Warsaw. In 2008, UBS made a significant investment in its Krakow office, where it currently has more than 200 employees provide support services to UBS businesses around the globe. In January this year, UBS was accepted as a member of the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

Alex Wilmot-Sitwell, co-CEO of UBS Investment Bank and chairman and CEO UBS Group Europe Middle East and Africa, said: “Poland is an important growth market for UBS. This is a significant step for UBS and will further strengthen our commitment to clients in Poland and the region.”
