One of Thailand's largest financial firms, Siam City Bank, is switching all of its banking cards to the EMV standard, in collaboration with local card company Chan Wanich Security Printing and international smart card technology firm Giesecke & Devrient.

The first Visa and MasterCard EMV cards were issued to the bank’s customers in early November 2006, alongside the launch of the use of Giesecke & Devrient’s (G&D) Universal Production Platform, a flexible EMV personalization solution supporting a wide selection of chip platforms and quick customization to Chan Wanich Security Printing’s (CSP) specific production environment.

We made the decision exclusively for the complete package from G&D and CSP because we were very positive about the expertise of both smart card companies, said Virach Paisitsavet, senior vice president of the cards operations department at Siam City Bank. G&D has already successfully carried out several timely EMV migration projects in Thailand and throughout Southeast Asia and CSP has excellent local card production capabilities.
