Online and mobile payments provider PayU South Africa has signed a three year deal to use ReD Shield online fraud prevention service to protect its e-commerce customers across the region.

The deal follows a similar contract with the group for deployment of its service to PayU’s merchants in India.

ReD International Partnerships and Alliances director Kami Boyer commented, "We will provide PayU and its merchants with a simple method of combining excellent payment transaction services with ‘real-time, all-the-time’ fraud prevention, through a single connection."

With the help of an unlimited number of variables and global database of ‘hot’ cards, ReD Shield will analyse and determine authenticity of each transaction in PayU’s payment environment.

The service provider already collates and distributes South African negative card files on behalf of issuing banks, providing up-to-date details of lost and stolen cards as they are reported across the country.

Headquartered in Cape Town, PayU processes approximately 65% of the e-commerce transaction value in South Africa.
