Scandinavian banking group Nordea is to offer a new service whereby its customers in Finland can personalize their personal payment card with various designs.

As part of the service, customers can create a unique card with a self-taken digital photo or, alternatively, they can select a picture from the bank’s gallery, which offers pictures of nature, animals and arts, among other things.

Nordea is also currently evaluating completely new types of cards that add new dimensions in terms of look and feel. The options under consideration include cards with a texture such as denim, and cards with a mirror.

Initially, a picture can be attached to Nordea’s MasterCard, MasterCard Gold and Visa Electron. During spring 2007, customers will be provided with the possibility of ordering a Visa and a Visa Gold card with a personalized design. However, bank cards or an ATM card will not be able to be personalized, as these cards will no longer be provided in the years to come due to the international SEPA requirements.

The personalized cards will cost E12.
