The Royal Bank of Scotland's NatWest subsidiary is to boost its UK traveling banking service with the launch of two new mobile banks in Devon and Cumbria. NatWest commented that the move continues its strategy of providing remote areas of the country with direct access to face-to-face banking facilities.

NatWest said that the new banks, which are intended to launch on March 26, 2007, come after the success of its Cornish and South Wales mobile banks. The new services will run every weekday. In Devon the route will cover areas around Buckfastleigh, Chudleigh, Gunnislake and Millbrook; while in Cumbria it will cover Burton in Kendal, Coniston, Grasmere and Loweswater.

NatWest commented that customers would be able to carry out a range of personal banking services onboard the banks, including cashing checks, making account deposits, paying bills and ordering foreign currency.

There will also be a phone system onboard to provide customers with a direct line to other main areas of the bank, such as credit cards.

The banks are fully accessible for people with disabilities, and facilities include a wheelchair lift and an audio induction loop for those with hearing aids.

NatWest commented that scheduled routes and times will allow customers to plan ahead and that the routes will be reviewed regularly to reflect customer demand.

Helen Page, NatWest marketing director, said: Access to banking services is a major concern for those living in remote areas and we are committed to improving services for people in these communities. The two new mobile banks in Devon and Cumbria will complement our strong traditional branch network in those regions.
