MayBank and Sony Malaysia have collaborated to launch a new exclusive co-branded credit card, SonyCard, which promises to offer more value and a new entertainment experience for cardholders. The new product represents Sony's first co-branded credit card in Southeast Asia.

The SonyCard gives cardholders a chance to watch blockbuster movie premieres, hear new music the moment it is released, play new games others have only heard of and shop for electronic innovations. In addition to this, cardholders also earn double reward points each time they charge their purchases using SonyCard at participating Sony outlets.

SonyCard synergises the brand strengths of Maybank, Sony and Visa. It is more than just a credit card. It’s a lifestyle card to differentiate the customer. It offers immense value to customers and offers double advantage over normal credit cards, said Spencer Lee, senior executive vice president and head of consumer banking at Maybank.

It comes with an exciting host of exclusive privileges as well as benefits when purchasing Sony products and services. It also gives access to a wide range of facilities and services offered by Maybank and Visa’s domestic and global merchants, he continued.

The card also carries contactless payment technology, allowing cardmembers to pay for all purchases below RM150 by simply waving the card at a reader terminal.

Sony’s more than 53,000 existing loyalty cardmembers will have immediate access to the SonyCard and enjoy special loyalty rewards and incentives when they shop at any of the 52 Sony stores nationwide. Sony’s immediate benefit is the potential to generate new customers from Maybank’s large customer base to patronize Sony outlets and merchants. We are targeting to sign on about 40,000 SonyCard members by the end of the year, added Mr Lee.

Furthermore, Sony is offering 21 exclusive privileges, including Sony entertainment rewards, to its cardholders. These include a one-year annual fee waiver, extended warranty including lightning and fire protection up to 25 months, and exclusive invitations to Sony events, among other things.
