MasterCard Worldwide has appointed Ed McLaughlin as chief emerging payments officer, and Eileen Simon has been named to the role of chief franchise development officer.

As chief emerging payments officer, Mr McLaughlin will be responsible for leading the development and commercialization of payment product platforms and solutions around the globe. Emerging Payments consists of MasterCard’s products and solutions in the areas of e-Commerce, mobile, P2P, PayPass/Transit, inControl, bill payment, chip, and the mobile payment solutions joint venture.

Mr McLaughlin, who was group executive for MasterCard’s franchise development group, joined MasterCard in 2005 as group head, bill payment and healthcare. Prior to MasterCard, he served as group vice president for product and strategy at Metavante, a financial services technology company.

In her role as chief franchise development officer, Ms Simon will develop and implement a comprehensive global franchise strategy. She will be responsible for evolving MasterCard’s strategies with regard to licensing and approvals, rules and standards as well as compliance, registration and dispute resolution to meet customer needs and protect the integrity of MasterCard brand.

Ms Simon, who was group executive, senior associate general counsel, joined MasterCard in 1999. Prior to MasterCard, she was an antitrust lawyer at Weil, Gotshal & Manges. In her most recent role, she was responsible for providing legal support to the MasterCard global products and solutions division, law and franchise integrity, as well as the MasterCard Technologies organization.
