Smart card manufacturer Giesecke & Devrient is to supply EMV smart cards to Italian online bank, Fineco. Over the next several months the bank's 300,000 credit and debit card customers will see their magnetic stripe cards gradually phased out in favor of EMV technology.
The smart cards run on G&D’s card operating system, ‘Star DC I’. The companies say this meets the requirements of the ABI’s (Italian Banking Association) debit and credit smart card specifications.
In the project, G&D will provide Fineco with initialization, card design, production and fulfillment. The cards will be personalized by Metalplex, a G&D partner in Italy. FirstData, another partner, will manage keys and generate data.
