Ingenico, a provider of payment solutions, has partnered with Turkey-based Bank Asya to introduce contactless payment solutions in Turkey.

According to Ingenico, the pilot phase of the new payment solution will be carried out in the 114 taxi cabs of the Sabiha Gokcen Airport, Istanbul. The taxis would be equipped with the Ingenico’s EFT930 GPRS Mobile Terminals to facilitate the payment by contactless cards as well as by contact and debit cards.

Ingenico said that the program will accept the amounts greater than TRY35. Upon completion of the pilot phase the contactless payment service will be expanded to other vehicles.

Mustafa Olmez, payment systems manager of Bank Asya, said: “At Bank Asya during the last two years, we have carried out several studies on the adoption of contactless payment. Solutions for public transportation, bridge and highway tolls have been extremely well received. We now aim to ease the lives of the cab passengers and drivers by deploying this offer for the taxis.”
