The Friends Provident Stewardship Pension fund has become the UK's first retail ethical fund to exceed the GBP1 billion mark. Friends Provident says that this landmark was achieved through a combination of healthy long-term performance and a steadily increasing flow of new money into the fund over the last 21 years.

The Stewardship Pension Fund was the UK’s first retail ethical pension fund, and is run by F&C Asset Management for Friends Provident.

Commenting on the occasion, Julia Dreblow, socially responsible investment marketing manager for Friends Provident, said: This achievement demonstrates that support for ethical funds is growing and that investing in line with your personal values can make both sound moral and financial sense.

The fact we have reached the GBP1 billion landmark through a combination of steady long-term sales growth as well as exemplary medium and longer-term performance is a credit to the vision of Stewardship’s founders, she added.
