Singapore-based DBS Group Holdings has appointed Tan Kong Khoon as group executive and head of Consumer Banking, effective 1 December 2010.
Khoon will join DBS Group from ANZ Bank, where he was most recently head of Retail Banking and Wealth Management for Hong Kong and North East Asia.
DBS said that Khoon will also become a member of its Group Management Committee and will report to CEO Piyush Gupta.
Khoon, who has nearly 29 years of experience im the banking industry, began his banking career at DBS in Singapore in 1981. He was president and CEO of Thailand-based Bank of Ayudhya from March 2007 to December 2009.
Prior to that, Khoon spent over six years at Standard Chartered Bank. His last role with the bank was regional head for Consumer Banking for China and Hong Kong.
Gupta said Kong Khoon is one of DBS’ own, having started his banking career with the bank almost three decades ago.
“Given his strong experience in consumer banking in Asia, I am confident that he will work with the team to leverage DBS’ strong distribution network, broad suite of products and services, and wide customer base,” Gupta said.
