DBS Bank Hong Kong, a subsidiary of Singapore-based DBS Bank and Japan-based JCB International (JCBI) have signed an agreement for merchant acquiring services of JCB cards in Hong Kong and Macau. DBS has started to facilitate JCB card acceptance in its merchant network.

The partnership with DBS expands the JCBI merchant network in Hong Kong and Macau, allowing JCB cardmembers to benefit from card acceptance in these two markets. Through the agreement, DBS also benefits from giving its merchants access to card transactions generated by JCB’s over 60 million cardmember base, mainly in Asia.

Carol Hung, senior vice president of cards and unsecured loans, consumer banking at DBS Bank Hong Kong, said: “We are pleased to announce our co-operation with JCBI as we will be able to provide more comprehensive and improved merchant acquiring services by expanding our acquiring network to include JCB cards. With an extensive network of DBS, we are pleased to work with JCBI to increase the number of JCB merchants in order to offer better acceptance services to JCB cardmembers.

“Given the expansion of acceptance, DBS will improve its cardmember service and risk-prevention measures to create a safe and convenient environment for JCB cardmembers.”

Takahisa Izumi, managing director of JCB International (Asia), based in Hong Kong, said: “I believe this will further increase the level of cardmember convenience throughout these markets. The partnership with DBS is a milestone in the extension of our acceptance network, and marks another significant achievement in JCB’s international expansion.”
