Citibank, a member of Citigroup, has launched Citi Text Banking, a mobile banking service that delivers account updates on demand to bank and credit card customers in the US.

Citi Text Banking is the newest addition to Citi Mobile, Citi’s US mobile banking platform, which includes a downloadable application for iPhone devices and a mobile version of citi.com that customers can access from their smartphones’ browser.

Citi Text Banking provides updates for all Citi credit card accounts and for Citibank accounts linked to a Citibank ATM or debit card, including checking and savings accounts, home equity lines and loans, personal lines and loans, and mortgages.

According to the bank, Citi Text Banking stores no personal information on the mobile device, and full account numbers are never revealed.

Liza Landsman, managing director of internet and mobile banking for North America at at Citi, said: “With two-thirds of US cell phone owners already using text messaging, this gives our customers one more way to stay connected to their accounts. Customers can see recent activity, find out when their next credit card payment is due, or make sure they have enough in checking before making a debit card purchase.”
