BNP Paribas Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) has announced key appointments effective 1 January 2011, following the integration of BNP Paribas Fortis' corporate and investment banking activities.

Eric Raynaud, currently chief operating officer of BNP Paribas Fortis, head of BNP Paribas Fortis CIB and CIB coordinator for Asia-Pacific (APAC) , has been appointed as head of Asia-Pacific for the group and CEO for BNP Paribas CIB APAC, based in Asia.

In his capacity as CEO for BNP Paribas CIB APAC, Raynaud will report to Alain Papiasse, head of BNP Paribas CIB.

Jean-Yves Fillion, currently head of Client Coverage for BNP Paribas CIB in North America, has been appointed as chief operating officer of BNP Paribas Fortis and head of BNP Paribas Fortis CIB.

Fillion will be replacing Raynaud and will report to Jean-Laurent Bonnafe, in his capacity of CEO of BNP Paribas Fortis, and to Alain Papiasse, head of BNP Paribas CIB.

Fillion will be based in Brussels and will join the BNP Paribas Fortis executive committee. He will also be proposed as member of BNP Paribas Fortis’ board of directors, subject to the approval.

In order to further leverage in the Europe region, the group has also made some key appointments.

BNP Paribas said that Thierry Varene will take direct responsibility for the UK, Germany and Spain, the strategic countries of the group for the development and expansion of Investment Banking Europe franchise.

Besides, BNP Paribas’ CIB activities in Italy and France, the two of BNP Paribas’ domestic markets – will report to Varene. He will keep his current responsibilities and continues to report to Papiasse.

Fillion will take direct responsibility for all other BNP Paribas CIB countries in Europe, reporting to Papiasse in this capacity and will join the BNP Paribas CIB executive committee.

Following Fillion’s appointment to a new role in Europe Guido van Hauwermeiren, head of International Coverage, has been appointed as head of client Coverage Americas, covering both the North and South American regions.

In this respect, Hauwermeiren will act on behalf of Everett Schenk, head for North America and Louis Bazire, head for South America.

Hauwermeiren will be based in New York. As head of International Coverage, Hauwermeiren will continue to report to Papiasse and remains member of the CIB executive committee.

To further develop the global investment banking (IB) capabilities, Lincoln Payton has been appointed as head of IB Energy & Commodities (E&C) in addition to his role as head of the E&C franchise for BNP Paribas CIB globally.

In this new role Payton will be based in New York and will report to Thierry Varene, who has a leading role on all Investment Banking initiatives globally.

Payton will continue to report to Papiasse in his capacity as head of the E&C sector for CIB and remains member of the CIB executive committee.

Papiasse said that these appointments will help the group to consolidate the presence in the top league of CIBs globally, uphold the European leadership, grow footprint in Asia Pacific and increase and deepen our client base worldwide.
