Barclays Wealth has expanded its alternative investment origination and distribution teams with four new senior appointments.

The new appointments within the alternative origination team include Boudewijn Jansen, as head of private equity origination and Sarah Newman as head of hedge fund origination. Both will report to Thomas Fekete, EMEA head of investment products.

Mr Jansen joined from HSBC Alternative Investments Limited (HAIL) where he was global head of private equity, part of HSBC Private Bank.

Ms Newman joined with 14 years of experience within the equity derivatives and fund linked products/derivatives businesses at JP Morgan Chase, BNP Paribas and most recently at Credit Suisse.

Jamie Murray joined as a director, and Emily Smart, as a hedge fund specialist, to build out the EMEA alternative investments distribution capabilities.

Mr Murray was most recently with Broadgate Mainland as associate director responsible for hedge fund public relations. Prior to this, he worked as an executive director at Morgan Stanley Alternative Investment Partners. He also worked at HSBC as head of business development and distribution within the fund of hedge fund business for 11 years.

Ms Smart will report to Mr Murray. Prior to Barclays, she was a director at UBS Wealth Management where she worked since 2004 with responsibility for identifying and evaluating hedge funds for inclusion in the key client advisory platform.

Mr Fekete said: "Barclays Wealth is investing extensively within the alternatives origination team to ensure the highest quality investment products for our clients. In addition to our new hires we also have an experienced and established commercial real estate team led by Phil Jeffcock."
