Barclays Capital has appointed Ana Cabral-Gardner as a managing director in the investment banking division, based in the firm’s Sao Paulo office in Brazil.

In her role, Ms Cabral-Gardner will focus on delivering the firm’s investment banking products and services to clients in the retail, consumer and healthcare sectors. She will report to Alceu Lima, head of investment banking in Brazil, and president of Banco Barclays in Brazil, and joins Marcus Peixoto and Andre Laloni to expand the firm’s senior investment banking coverage team in Brazil.

Ms Cabral-Gardner was previously a managing director and head of Latin American equity capital markets at Goldman Sachs, where she helped to establish the firm’s Brazilian operations. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs in 2007, she worked in Credit Suisse’s Sao Paulo office as the head of Latin America equity capital markets.

Mr Lima said: “Ana’s appointment is an important step in the continued expansion of our Brazilian investment banking platform and we are pleased to welcome her to the firm. The unique experience she has gained from building Brazilian operations for leading global investment banking firms, coupled with her deep client relationships, will greatly contribute to our continued growth.”
