Bank of Scotland has opened its largest ever UK branch in central Glasgow, which is also believed to be one of the biggest ever opened by any bank in the UK.

The new branch is expected to serve around 1,000 customers a day through its 12 counters, 20 private customer meeting rooms and eight ATMs across the three-storey building, which totals 8,000 square feet.

The facilities can be used by retail, business, corporate and private banking customers. Around 90 people will be employed to work at the new branch. The Argyle Street branch also has extended opening hours, and will be open for a total of over 55 hours a week.

In addition to this Glaswegian branch, Bank of Scotland also plans to establish a new flagship branch in Edinburgh city center in early 2008.

Branch manager Scott McDonald commented: Glasgow city center is of huge importance to Bank of Scotland. The opening of this flagship branch firmly underlines our ambition in the area. We now have the best possible place to do business for our customers and our colleagues.
