Italian bank Banca Marche and IBM have struck a five-year deal to create a paperless branch network. IBM will manage Banca Marche's IT infrastructure and train employees on the new paperless systems throughout the bank's branches.

The project, dubbed ‘Intelligent Branch,’ aims to integrate customer data from multiple sales channels such as internet and call centers, and will automate applications for loans and account openings. The new branch designs are based on J2EE open standards and will be built using a service-orientated architecture (SOA) approach.

This agreement will allow Banca Marche to offer more services to its customers, and to lead the Italian banking industry in developing open and innovative solutions, commented Massimo Bianconi, Banca Marche general manager.
