A UK newspaper has reported that numerous consumers are up in arms over retail bank NatWest's decision to stop rewarding some of its credit card customers with points from the Air Miles loyalty travel scheme.

NatWest, the retail bank owned since 2000 by RBS Group, has written to selected credit card customers telling them that they will no longer earn or be able to redeem points in the Air Miles scheme, the Daily Mail newspaper says.

The affected customers are angry that NatWest is giving no explanation for the decision, merely offering free single trip travel insurance to those who complain by way of compensation. The report goes on to suggest that the affected customers, mostly those who infrequently claim their on their Air Miles points, while regular users will be unaffected by the move.

The trade journal Marketing also recently reported that NatWest was set to end its long-standing partnership with the Air Miles scheme.
