American Express has appointed Marc Gordon as the executive vice president and chief information officer, effective from 4 September 2012.

Gordon will report to Stephen Squeri, who is the group president of global corporate services, and will discharge his duties as head of the company’s global technologies organization.

The US based card conglomerate said that Gordon will also become a corporate officer upon his election by the American Express Board of directors at the next scheduled meeting.

Prior to accepting his current role, Gordon acted as enterprise CIO and chief technology officer at Bank of America, where he oversaw the development of industry-leading capabilities and innovations at very large scale.

Before BofA, he served as CIO for Best Buy and The Timberland Company.

Squeri said, "With 25 years of leadership experience across a range of industries, Marc brings an agile, innovative approach to driving change and leveraging technology to achieve business results."
