Global services company American Express has elected Anne Lauvergeon as new director to its board, in order to boost international operations.

Lauvergeon appointment will be effective from 1 March.

Prior to joining the service company, she was acting as partner and managing director at an investment firm Efficiency Capital.

She has worked as chairman and CEO of advisory company A.L.P. SAS and was appointed chairman and CEO of Cogema. With Areva Lauvergeon served as CEO from 2001 to 2011.

Before this, she served as in-charge of international business and industrial holdings at Alcatel, where she was senior executive vice president and member of the executive committee.

American Express, which has $153bn in total assets, employs 62,500 staff across the globe, and provides payment, travel and expense management systems for individuals and businesses of all sizes.
