Irish banking group AIB has announced that, from March 5, 2007, it will offer a new high interest current account for personal banking customers.

The new account will pay 4% AER on balances up to E1,500 to customers with monthly lodgments of E1,500 or more.

At present, this is the best rate available in the personal market, and the account has no incurring additional fixed monthly or quarterly fees. It is also the first to pay interest higher than the ECB rate.

This product is the latest addition to AIB’s series of personal customer initiatives, through which the banking group aims to give customers choice, convenience and value. The bank claims this new account offers both value and convenience by paying a very attractive rate of interest on this money.

AIB is continuing to reinforce its standing as a leading provider of personal banking services in the Irish marketplace. Last year, we introduced new online services, dropped our prices and improved our rates across the complete range of personal banking products, stated Donal Forde, managing director at AIB Bank.

Our customers responded very positively to these initiatives and now we are launching new offers that will bring even more value, choice and convenience to both existing and new customers, he continued.
