Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) has announced its plans to create 200 new jobs in two years, through the launch of two new technology centres in Bilbao, Spain.

The new tech centres will be designed to have specialised computer, telecommunications, systems and industrial engineer profiles, along with mathematicians.

The bank intends to establish the two tech centres in the first quarter of 2022, which will be a part of its technology company, BBVA Next Technologies.

BBVA Next Technologies specialises in software engineering that advances the technological transformation of BBVA and other leading companies in Spain.

The company has around 900 professionals who provide strategy and solution development services in the areas of cloud, data and security.

BBVA chairman Carlos Torres Vila said: “These innovation centres will play a critical role in the bank’s operations and strategy.

“We expect that, in the next two years, they will have around 200 professionals specialised in areas such as advanced cloud architectures, cloud computing, security and data.”

According to the bank, technology and data are two important elements of its strategy, which focuses on helping its customers to improve their financial health.

The new tech centres, which already started hiring, would add new talent to the group, and enable the adoption of the latest technologies, which are crucial to its transformation.

BBVA intends to build the new centres in the BAT, B Accelerator Tower, located in the Bizkaia Tower and BBVA IT, in Henao Street, at the centre of the city.

BBVA IT is engaged in developing, maintaining and improving critical services for the bank, including digital factory, and supports different business areas.

It has more than 750 employees comprising software developers and big data experts.

BBVA has also signed a collaboration agreement with the Biscay Provincial Council.

With the new centres, the bank is enabled to promote digitisation, promote talent and develop culture as levers of economic and social transformation.
